Mother’s Day

Posted: May 11, 2009 in Uncategorized

Today is Mother’s Day.  My mother was a softball star back in her hey-day.  She was the catcher for the BC Provincial Champions in grade 6.  My Grandmother was the coach.  She also was a volleyball player.  If you played volleyball against the Delta Pacers Senior Girls team in the late sixties, chances are my mother spiked on you.

She was also quite the equestrian, which is cool.  I don’t really consider that a sport, however.  That is unnless it involves hunting a fox with a bunch of other noblemen and women on horseback…..

No Canucks, NO!!

The Vancouver Canucks lost tonight in their playoff game against the Blackhawks.  The series is tied at 2-2.  This is my fault.  I was in a class and unable to watch the game on TV.  They win when I watch.  I owe my city an apology.

Say it ain’t so, Manny.

Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers was just suspended today for 50 games for testing positive for PED, an as yet unidentified Performance Enhancing Drug. This blows for a number of reasons:

  • Manny is pretty awesome. Baseball has more “characters” in it then any other sport and Manny is one of it’s most colorful.
  • The sport doesn’t need another one of it’s superstars to be labeled a steroid cheat.
  • I’m currently playing a season with the Dodgers in MLB 09 the Show and I’m 100 games in and I now have to decide, in the interest of authenticity and statistical accuracy (which is what baseball is all about), whether or not to not play him in my own season. He’s currently sitting on 23 homers and 65 RBIs. My next best power guy is Matt Kemp at 11 homers. I just can’t replace Manny’s pop.
